United Kingdom (Edinburgh, Scotland) Visa Information
Visa Requirements Overview
Visa requirements for the United Kingdom depend on your nationality and current country of residence. Some nationalities can enter the UK visa-free for short stays, while others must apply for a visa in advance. Applicants are strongly advised to check the most up-to-date requirements with the nearest UK Visa Application Centre or official UK government website.
Who Needs a Visa?
Attendees from countries not included in the UK’s visa-free visitor list must obtain a visa before traveling.
Participants who require a visa to enter the UK for a conference or business event may request an official invitation letter to support their visa application.
An invitation letter confirms participation but does not guarantee visa approval.
Visa-Free Entry (Standard Visitor)
Citizens of many countries (such as the USA, Canada, EU countries, Australia, Japan, and others) can enter the UK without a visa for up to 6 months for tourism, business meetings, or conference attendance.
Visa-free entry does not permit paid work.
How to Request an Invitation Letter
To request an invitation letter:
• Complete the invitation letter request form provided by the organizers.
• Ensure all personal and passport details are accurate and complete.
• After submission, you will receive confirmation and further instructions.
Invitation letters are typically issued electronically (PDF format).
How to Apply for a UK Visa
Applicants who require a visa should:
• Gather required documents (requirements vary by country):
– Valid passport
– Completed visa application form
– Invitation letter
– Conference registration confirmation
– Travel itinerary and accommodation details
– Financial evidence (if required)
• Submit the application online and attend a biometric appointment at a UK Visa Application Centre.
When to Apply?
Apply for your invitation letter and visa as early as possible.
UK visa processing times vary by country and season, but typically range from 3 to 6 weeks. Priority services may be available in some locations.
Important Notes
Visa approval is solely at the discretion of UK immigration authorities.
Conference organizers are not responsible for visa rejections, delays, or additional documentation requests.
Attendees are advised not to finalize travel arrangements until their visa has been granted.
Before You Submit a Request for the Conference invitation letter
Make sure that you have registered to attend the event and completed your payment. Requests without proof of payment can not be accommodated.
Check whether you indeed require a visa to travel to the event’s host country.
Prepare your passport information to submit in the request.
Check that your passport is valid for at least three months after the date of departure from Finland.
